2010 Lynsay Sands Challenge Reminder

This is just a reminder post about my 2010 Reading Challenge for the year. If you would like to join just click on the picture to be taken to the sign up page! A great new challenge to introduce you to a great author and series!!!

2009 Review Recap

Hard to believe that I only started my blog back in August of this year after looking at my final review list recap. I can't believe that I have read and reviewed 113 books since then. That averages to about 22 books a month. Not too shabby considering with the holidays, sickness, and birthdays also arrived at the same time to slow me down.

I have signed up for the 100+ Reading Challenge, but I know that this year I will pass up the 100 mark. I am so excited to be sharing my reviews with you. I know I don't go into to much detail with my reviews. I generally just post the synopsis, and give you just my thoughts and feelings of the book I review. I figure that you don't want spoilers, and just want to know how a book makes you feel when you read it. If you want more details, that is what the synopsis is for right??

There are also going to be changes coming to my blog this year. Not only will Spread The Love Sunday continue, but I have had good remarks about WTF?! Friday and will continue to feature that as well. I will be hosting alot more contests this year. Be on the lookout for a weekly giveaway. I want to thank each and everyone of you for making this blog successful and I hope to continue to make all of you happy!

So without further rambling from me, here is my 2009 Review Recap with ratings:

TEMPT ME, TASTE ME, TOUCH ME by Bella Andre

TEMPT ME, TASTE ME, TOUCH ME
Author Bella Andre
  • Paperback: 304 pages
  • Publisher: Pocket (January 2, 2007)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1416524177
  • ISBN-13: 978-1416524175
SYNOPSIS:

California wine country is a world of sensual delights -- the tantalizing kiss of sunlight . . . the luscious decadence of gourmet cuisine . . . the slow burn of wine that warms from within . . . and sinfully sexy men. For three women hungering for more, it's a destination for pleasuring both body and soul. . . .

Tempt Me
Carrie can't explain why she turned down a marriage proposal from Mr. Perfect. But a chance encounter with a rugged winemaker who works the earth unleashes something wild in her. His raw, hungry power has her intoxicated with desire -- and she knows it's useless to resist. . . .

Taste Me
After voluptuous Rose is left by her boyfriend for a thinner woman, she's in for a sensual shock when she falls for a chef who can't get enough of her luscious curves. One taste of his lovemaking will never be enough. . . .

Touch Me
Vanessa is used to loving and leaving her men. And the man she wants now is an intense artist who has her modeling nude amid the Napa vineyards. But this time, he's the one playing hard to get -- and their heated game of "look but don't touch" will soon have Vanessa begging for release. . . .

MY THOUGHTS:

I knew I had to read another book by this author now that I have unburied my TBR pile. This book features 3 different stories of 3 friends that take a vacation to Napa Valley. Each one finds true love in the span of 3 days. Even though I enjoyed each story in the book, I enjoyed the first book about Carrie and Tyson the most. The characters in that story are the ones that captivated me the most. Hot and steamy sex is throughout the book, but it also has plots to it with suspense thrown in. Another great book by a wonderful author!

MY THOUGHTS:
When it comes to reviewing book for children, I use a few different things to determine my opinion on it.

Was my child focused on the book as we read it together? Yes
Did she enjoy all the pictures or artwork throughout the book? Yes
Did she understand the meaning of what the book was about when we
discussed it afterwords? Yes
Did she ask me to read it again? Yes

My daughter really loved this book. She loved all the artwork and she kept stopping me to look at the pictures longer. She loved the poetry like reading and really wanted to keep reading it! As an adult, I enjoyed this book as well. This will be a keeper to read over and over again each Christmas.

TAKE ME by Bella Andre

TAKE ME
Author: Bella Andre
  • Paperback: 272 pages
  • Publisher: Pocket; First Edition edition (November 15, 2005)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1416509577
  • ISBN-13: 978-1416509578
SYNOPSIS:

An appetite for sensual pleasures must never be denied. . . .

Lily Ellis has curves--soft, beautiful curves. The kind of voluptuous body she fears Travis Carson, the man she's always loved from afar, would never crave. But Lily is about to be proven wrong. Her sensual adventure begins when, despite her inhibitions, the demure San Francisco interior decorator agrees to model a plus-size dress for her fashion designer sister. Watching this sensual beauty move down the runway with mesmerizing power, Travis can't believe it's the same Lily he's always known and always rejected. In a whirlwind of electric attraction, Lily is soon moaning Travis's name in his bed, not just in her wild fantasies. But Lily is all too aware that she's nothing like his past lovers . . . and now that she has him close at last, she's praying Travis likes what he sees and feels. Determined to beat Travis at his own game by guarding her true feelings of love and lust, she spontaneously partners with him on a business deal that takes them all the way to Italy. In the seductive warmth of the Tuscan sun, Lily is about to unwrap her real self, and play a game of desire with the hot-blooded Travis. Will she be burned by an ecstasy that's so all-consuming it has her seeing stars? Or will Travis open his heart to the sexy, exciting, and lasting love she has to offer?

MY THOUGHTS:

I have had this on my bookshelf for some time now, and I decided to finally read it! I loved how the author made Lily a character I could relate to. Out of all the romance books out there, I hardly ever get to read one with a women who isn't a size 2! Lily is a size 16 trying to seduce a man she has been in love with since childhood. He happens to be rich, sexy as hell, and acts like she is invisible.

The author went through all the emotions a larger woman would go through. Am I skinny enough? What outfit looks the best on me? What if he see's my cellulite? Us larger women have feelings and lust fantasies as well, and this book just goes to show it!

The only drawback to this book is the other characters story. Janica and Luke left me hanging. I would have loved some closure of their storyline. I am hoping the author will continue their story as well.

Overall, very likeable characters that made it very hard to put this book down! I loved it!

SPREAD THE LOVE SUNDAY!

It's Sunday and that means another edition of Spread The Love Sunday! This is a weekly event here on My Overstuffed Bookshelf where I give back to my readers who have been great friends, followers, inspiration and all around great people! A place to showcase YOU!

If you would like to be featured on Spread the Love Sunday, just drop me an email and I will be happy to feature you!

This week I have Kayla here!

Name: Kayla
Blog: Sexy Women Read @ sexywomenread.blogspot.com

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

Well, my blog is for people who like to read romance books! It is strictly a book blog that only features romance novels. There are reviews, and sometimes a couple writing tips. I don't hold my own contests, but every now and then, when I find a really great contest, I'll also post them on my blog.

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

I love to read, it's my hobby. A few friends and I read the same books (I got them hooked!) but after a while, I ran out of good books to read. So, I turned to the internet to search for some new books. I found some, okay, I found a lot, but I wasn't satisfied. I wanted somewhere to go to be able to have lists and reviews on some great romance books that real people actually read and said what they thought. Which is why I took it upon myself to start a blog to do just that. :) My favorite thing about having a blog is when people comment on the book posts telling me how much they love the book or author I talked about.

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

You have to ask the hardest question in the world, don't you?! LOL I would have to say I would love to be Emma from Kresley Cole's Hunger Like No Other because then Lochlain would be all mine!

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

I can't choose one, it's impossible, so I'll give you a (brief) list: Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kresley Cole, J. R. Ward, Gena Showalter, Lynsay Sands, Roxanne St.Claire, Shayla Black, Jaquelyn Frank, and sooo many more it's crazy!

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

Genre? Romance.
Subcatagory? Paranormal, hands down.

6.What book are you reading right now?

Right now (I just started it this morning!) I'm reading Take Me Tonight by Roxanne St.Claire

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.

First off, I love this blog right here! It's great Amy. :)
To name a few more..
8. Any tips for new bloggers?

Keep blogging! A blog filled with old updates is a boring blog! Even if you pop in to say "I'm busy right now, sorry, I'll write again soon", it let's readers know that you haven't forgot them. Also, I have a feeling vlogs are going to make a big slash soon, so if you want to jump on that boat, it would be something cool.

Thank you so much Kayla for joining us today!!!

Thank you Cecile!

See that new blog header up there on top?? Isn't it amazing??!!

Thank you so much Cecile from All I Want And More for doing such a fantastic job of it! She knew exactly what I had pictured in my mind! Now if I can just convince her to get me that book shelf image in the background of it with those colors to make a background for my blog..*cough, hint* I will be all set to go!

She is so awesome and if you haven't checked out her blog before, go stop by and see it! She has the greatest blog!

NIGHT SECRETS by Cherry Adair

NIGHT SECRETS
Author: Cherry Adair
  • Mass Market Paperback: 336 pages
  • Publisher: Ballantine Books (October 28, 2008)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0345499913
  • ISBN-13: 978-034549991
SYNOPSIS:

But then she gets wind of an even bigger story. Among the nips and tucks she discovers a mysterious and devastatingly attractive man claiming he’s come to Rio to foil a plot that has the potential to unleash worldwide horror. Lucas Fox is Sydney’s ticket to a comeback–one that could relaunch her into the limelight. All she has to do is gain his trust. But Lucas Fox trusts no one. He’s a drop-dead gorgeous T-FLAC operative whose paranormal powers are flickering–but whose powers in bed rocket Sydney to a place she didn’t know existed. Now, with the astounding secrets that she and Lucas have uncovered at the spa, Sydney is willing to take on her most risky career move of all. She’ll work side by side with a world-hopping wizard–stopping only for the most forbidden pleasures along the way.

MY THOUGHTS:

This was my first book by Cherry Adair. I had heard great things about this author, but I was disappointed in this book.

It was more about the action than the passion. I like action in my books, don't get me wrong! But I also like a good balance between the two. I don't want all action or all romance. It has to have both to even out. There were moments of romance and witty humor, but not enough to keep me interested in the book. It had alot of military-like scenes and it just didn't appeal to me.

If you can handle the action themed books, with understanding of little romance, then this book would be a great read. It also has a lot of gruesome scenes, so if you are squeamish, I would hold out on this book. The ending is vague, and leaves you to believe that in order to get the full impact, you would have to read the final book in the series to get closure.

MY RATING:

A Decent Read.
Has Some Drawbacks Though.

  • Paperback: 270 pages
  • Publisher: Outskirts Press; 1st edition (August 12, 2009)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1432743201
  • ISBN-13: 978-1432743208
SYNOPSIS:

A woman's struggle as she searches for her missing husband leads to shocking revelations about him, his family, and the crime of adult kidnapping. Abby meets Caiden when she is sixteen years old and knows she has met her soul mate. At nineteen Abby marries the love of her life and together they begin a family of their own. Life gives them a gift, but this gift is short lived. After seven years of marriage it ends. Abby is left alone with her two children and the bloody clothes that Caiden was last seen in. With the horrifying revelations from her mother in law Abby sets out to prove her husband is indeed alive and that he's been taken against his will by his mother, brothers, and sisters in a sick and twisted game of keep-away. Knowing her husband isn't dead, Abby, with the help and support of her family, begins a search that takes her from Arizona to Arkansas and lasts for a span of eight years. On a visit to Caiden's birthplace, Abby and her brother Chase meet with Caiden's best friend who fills them in with the secrets of her husband's childhood and of the hell he endured. He tells them of the nightmares, the deceit, and the abuse Caiden suffered at the hands of his family. More determined than ever to locate her husband, before his family kills him, Abby hires a private investigator who opens the doors to Caiden's private world of hell and exposes his family for what they are, but will he be on time? Will Abby be on time to save her soul mate? Can she make him want to fight one last time? River of Tears is a tale of personal triumph over heartbreak, of unconditional love and bravery. It is a compelling modern-day story depicting how the power of love can overcome even the darkest facets of human nature. The story demonstrates how self-determination and loyalty can lead to unimaginable accomplishment, regardless of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. It is a story of faith in the face of tremendous loss, where fear and discouragement threaten to steal the last glimmer of hope. Will this shred of hope be enough to sustain, or will it ultimately crush Abby's dreams of lasting happiness? River of Tears will take you on a journey you will never forget, it will make you want to gather all you love close and keep them there, because we never know what's around the next corner of our lives.

MY THOUGHTS:

When you hear of someone being kidnapped, you usually think of children first. In River of Tears we get to learn about adult kidnappings.

I will warn people ahead of time that this is not a light read. You will be amazed at how the author can pull you into this book and make you go through every emotion possible with just words on a page. You will experience pain, sadness, pity, hate and love throughout this book. My heart ached with every word that I read. I couldn't believe what some people could do to family. I had to put this book down several times just to get my emotions back in control. When an author can do that to you with simple words on a page, then you know you have found a great author and book.

This was such a wonderful read for me, that I can say without a doubt, that this is my favorite fictional read of 2009. This is a book that touched my heart so deeply, and one that will stay with me for a long time, that there is no words that can really describe the power of this book. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a moving read that you will remember long after you finish reading it.

CANDY SKULLS by McKenzie Maclaine (review and Q&A)

CANDY SKULLS
Author: McKenzie Maclaine
Source: Author Submission
*I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review*
  • Paperback: 300 pages
  • Publisher: AuthorHouse (September 25, 2009)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1420857541
  • ISBN-13: 978-1420857542
SYNOPSIS:

Nobody knew him. But everyone feared him. From asphyxiation to yellow fever, Death had been the chauffer of souls for much longer than he cared to remember. Whether they were destined to Heaven or Hell, the cynical reaper had been forever responsible for the delivery of the deceased spirits. After spending all of eternity doing the same thing day in and day out with archangel Michael as his partner, Death was growing rather weary of his monotonous job. But when a chance encounter with the gifted child, Anya Smith, stirred up trouble in his routine, Death would soon find himself wishing for that comfortable monotony . . . Condemned by God to live a mortal life in order to see why good people had to die, Death must quickly learn to adjust to his newly borrowed body, once belonging to a homeless man by the name of Noah Quinn. Having no experience with human emotion much less mankind's general fragility, Death must adopt Noah's alias and dodge the advances of threats both physical and supernatural, all the while trying to keep Anya safe under his care. Betrayal, insanity, and pain both physical and mental are just the start of Noah's experiences with the living. Life among people surely holds many lessons, but Noah will soon learn more about the living than he bargained for: namely that it was a hell of a lot easier being dead than alive. Candy Skulls provides a unique look into the mechanics of human emotion. The casual blend of dark humor and suspense creates a compelling story about the successes and flaws of mankinds' relationship with the world, and an individual's relationship with himself.

MY THOUGHTS:

What do you think death is like? Do you imagine the grim reaper? A light tunnel? Push everything you have thought aside and start reading this book. The author gives a unique look at how death looks, acts, and who he is friends with. Are they allowed to talk to people or are they just invisible by all? I loved authors witty humor and portrayal of Death and the characteristics of Jesus. Especially when Jesus talks to the newcomers in the updated language!

This book was a great read. It had the dark, suspense you would expect, with touches of humor to keep it balanced. A great new author find and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR:

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Absolutely! I'm a tattoo artist in the fairly small town of Green Bay, Wisconsin. I bought my first home last year where I currently live in comfortable chaos with my roommates and dogs. I've always enjoyed writing as a distraction from the daily grind; utilizing creativity of any form is the most fascinating way a person can express their true self.

2. How did you come up with the idea for Candy Skulls?

Candy Skulls originally began as nothing more than an amusing anecdote to entertain whoever read it. But it slowly evolved into something a little more than that. I believe there are two things people take way too seriously in life: politics and religion. As an agnostic, I've always been able to stand aside and analyze different religions and belief systems without a biased opinion. I wanted to write a story that showed the readers both the serious side, as well as the cynical (and hilarious) side of religion through the eyes of a neutral party: Death. And if I've failed to do that, at least I can fall back on the initial plan of conceptualizing an entertaining story!

3. Can you give us any hints on what you are working on next?

I've grown rather attached to Death's character from Candy Skulls, and I've been toying with the idea of another book involving the lovable reaper.. Although I can honestly say it hasn't manifested into anything beyond mental thoughts.

4. Name three things you "must have" when you sit down to write.

1: A clean space. I can't concentrate if there's clutter in my writing area! 2: Background noise. I don't ever pay attention to it, but I need to feel life going on around me in order to write about it. 3: A comfortable chair! When I get going, I can write for hours on end, and if I don't pay attention I can wind up with some wicked back pain if my chair isn't supportive enough.

5. Some quick favorites for us:

Color: A lovely shade of gray
Author: Neil Gaiman
Movie: V for Vendetta
TV Show: Family Guy
Perfume: Clinique's Happy to Be

6. Do you have a website or blog where readers can keep up with your work?

Not yet, but I'm working diligently on that project and should have something up fairly soon!

7. Where can we purchase Candy Skulls?

You can purchase Candy Skulls at Authorhouse.com, Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, or a wide variety of other online book stores. I recommend going through Authorhouse.com, however, since the soft cover is only $10.99 versus the $14.99 they're selling it for on Amazon. It's all about saving money!
Thanks again for this opportunity! I really appreciate it! You're doing so many authors a huge favor by offering your time to read their books. Keep up the good work!

THE CURRENCY OF TIME by Brandon Stuart

THE CURRENCY OF TIME
Author: Brandon Stuart
Source: Author Submission
*I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review

SYNOPSIS:

The Currency of Time is a novel about life, decisions, and the power of perspective, as told through the story of Patrick Felson.

Patrick finds himself on an unexpected journey reliving one day from each decade of his life, and faced with crucial decisions about how best to spend his limited time. Knowing the importance of each of those days, and how they were spent the first time around, does he make the same decisions?

For Patrick, it takes a true gift of value to find out.

MY THOUGHTS:

I really enjoyed this book. When you first start reading it, the plot reminds you of a Mitch Albom novel. If you have ever read The Five People You Meet In Heaven, then I know you will love The Currency of Time.

The author has great skill of portraying the characters emotions and pulling on the readers heart at the same time. This book was a short read, but a powerful read. He gets to relive one day from each decade of his life, and he never knows which day it will be until he wakes up the next day. I found myself crying at some of the memories, and it is rare to find a book like that.

If you are a fan of strong, emotional reads then I recommend this book to you.

SYNOPSIS:

No mud equals no fun for three little pigs.

Three little pigs try everything in their power to make or find mud. Along the way they learn a valuable life lesson.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Dalton is currently in the third grade and is illustrating his third book in his imaginative
adventure series with his dad, Super Pete Saves the Day, while writing another book on
pigs, Snouter Pig, and brainstorming the second book in his mudhog series. Dalton has a
large collection of stuffed pigs of all shapes and sizes as well as his own small library of
books about pigs.

He holds a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and likes to practice and enter
tournaments. He also plays basketball, baseball and runs five kilometer races. Dalton
wants to be a fireman, a policeman, a detective, a doctor or a writer when he grows up;
depending on the day you talk to him.

Yes

Overall my child really enjoyed this book. When we finished reading it, the pictures guided her so she could re-tell the story. The pictures went with the story that was written and was easy for her to understand.

This week we get to know Blanche!

Name: Blanche

Blog: No Such Thing As Too Many Books

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

I LOVE books, always have and always will! My blog is a place where I can share with anyone who happens to drop by the books and authors I love!

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

I started my blog just over a year ago mostly to have a place to keep track of my books! As you probably guessed by the blog name.....there really is no such thing as too many books (as far as I am concerned) and my TBR will attest to that!! I actually never thought anyone would read it or be interested in it but people are! My favorite thing about it has to be the people I "meet" each day. I've discovered many new to me authors and genres and some days I don't even post about books, I just share every day life and those who stop by do the same! I think the one thing we all have in common is our love for books and it is so neat to see people from all corners of the world come together to share that love of books and reading!

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

Mary Elizabeth Potter from Mackenzie's Mountain (by Linda Howard)!!!! I know for a fact that everyone who has read this book has fallen in love with Wolf but I am staking my claim here.....he is MINE! :)

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

I have many favorite authors and this list could get very long so I'm just going to list a few. These are authors I "auto-buy" and their books always end up on my keeper shelf!
Linda Howard, Catherine Anderson, Lori Foster, Alison Kent, Maya Banks, Jaci Burton, Amy Knupp, Larissa Ione, Stephanie Tyler, Diana Palmer, Shayla Black, Lora Leigh and Lorelei James! I have many more but I'll stop here!

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

I love romance and will pretty much try any genre atleast once. There are certain one's that make me squirm so I tend to stay away from them unless I know the author and know where they are coming from in the book. I don't read horror either.....too many nightmares!

6. What book are you reading right now?

I'm not reading right now and actually haven't read anything in some time! I'm in a slump but hoping to get out of it ASAP!! I need to get started on Outlander for a challenge I am doing and I have a ton of really neat books sitting here that I want to read!

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.

I have sooooooooooooooooooo many favorite blogs! If you visit my blog you will see my blog roll, I seem to add a blog or 2 to it each day! I know there are many I've not yet discovered but I'm working on it!!

8. Any tips for new bloggers?

Stick to what you love! Don't think you need to follow the group or that your opinion or voice won't be heard......share the things you love and most importantly have fun!!

FAIREST OF ALL: A TALE OF THE WICKED QUEEN by Serena Valentino

FAIREST OF ALL: A TALE OF THE WICKED QUEEN
Author: Serena Valentino
Source: Library
  • Reading level: Ages 9-12
  • Hardcover: 256 pages
  • Publisher: Disney Press; 1 edition (August 18, 2009)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1423106296
  • ISBN-13: 978-1423106296
SYNOPSIS:

For anyone who's seen Walt Disney's Snow White, you'll know that the Wicked Queen is one evil woman! After all, it's not everyone who wants to cut out their teenage step-daughter's heart and have it delivered back in a locked keepsake box. (And even if this sort of thing is a common urge, we don't know many people who have acted upon it.) Now, for the first time, we'll examine the life of the Wicked Queen and find out just what it is that makes her so nasty. Here's a hint: the creepy-looking man in the magic mirror is not just some random spooky visage-and he just might have something to do with the Queen's wicked ways!

MY THOUGHTS:

Have you ever wondered what made the Wicked Queen so evil in Snow White? What made her so vain? What was her life like before she became evil?

First of all, look at that cover! I was so entranced with the cover itself, that I didn't even care what the back cover had on it. I loved Snow White growing up, and the Wicked Queen scared the crap out of me! In this book, we get to see how the Wicked Queen lived before the movie. We see how she met the King and Snow White and what their family was like as Snow White grew into a beautiful woman. The story explains why she turned evil, which will surprise you, and why she went after Snow White. If you have seen the movie, you know it is because she was vain, but the book explains the why behind it. We also get to find out who the person is in the Magic Mirror. The ending even throws you for a loop and makes you want to run out and watch Snow White again.

This was a book centered toward the younger teens, but as an adult, I loved this book. I hope the author decides to write a story featuring all the villians of Disney!

SYNOPSIS:

When rejection comes back to bite you...

Jordan's life sucks. Her boyfriend, Michael, dumped her, slept his way through half the student body, and then killed himself. But now, somehow, he appears at her window every night, begging her to let him in.

Jordan can't understand why he wants her, but she feels her resistance wearing down. After all, her life -- once a broken record of boring parties, meaningless hookups, and friends she couldn't relate to -- now consists of her drinking alone in her room as she waits for the sun to go down.

Michael needs to be invited in before he can enter. All Jordan has to do is say the words....

MY THOUGHTS:

When I saw this book, I was interested mainly because of the cover. I love cover art! This wasn't a horrible book, but it wasn't a great book either. It gave new twists to the vampire myths, but the storyline was lacking a lot of depth. It didn't capture my interest, but I knew I wanted to finish reading it because I had gotten so far into the book. I kept hoping the author would turn it around and it would come together better. It didn't. I just could not bring myself to actually care what happened to the characters in the story. The cover says 'He'll enter at her own risk'--well, read at your own risk.

MY RATING:

A Decent Read.

SYNOPSIS:

Gunmetal Blue by G. R. Bretz:

Meet Blue—an ex-Confederate cavalry officer living off his wits and his guns in Reconstruction era Texas—and Sally—a young woman stuck in a loveless marriage to a man who only married her for her family name. When Sally's stage is attacked by robbers, Blue comes to her rescue. Together, they make their way across the Lone Star state. But when they reach a crossroads, the direction they choose will change the course of their lives forever.

Outlaw by Rie McGaha:

Colt has a bullet in his thigh and his face on a wanted poster, but when he rode into the mountains to lay low for a while, he never expected to see a lone woman swimming naked in the river. Hidden in the tree line, he watches her and as desire grows, he takes matters into his own hands, but even that doesn't assuage his need to touch her.

Cynthia hasn't seen her husband in several months since he left her alone to go into town for supplies, but the man she wakes up to find lying on top of her with his hand over her mouth isn't the man she married. He demands she feed him and suggests if she doesn't, he won't have a problem taking what he really wants whether she consents or not.

As Colt watches her make biscuits and gravy, he finds he isn't just enticed by her body, something about her appeals to him on a deeper level and as the two come to know one another, it's apparent the attraction isn't one-sided.

Tengo Una Pistola by Bryl R. Tyne:

After ten days in the saddle, Chuck just wants a hot meal and hotter bath water. He knows exactly where to find both too -- at home, with his lover, Mitch. But what Chuck finds instead is that Mitch has taken in Carmen, one of the town whores . . . and not only is she sharing Mitch's bed, she's using Chuck's tub. The situation irks Chuck to no end, but not as badly as the images of those wet and soapy feminine thighs that are stuck in his craw and driving him crazy. What the hell is going on? As far as Chuck's concerned, somebody had better start talking and talking soon!

MY THOUGHTS:

I am not much for westerns. I just can't seem to get into them that much. Of course if you throw in some hot erotic scenes, then of course I will read them!

In this book, you get the western theme, the erotic sex, the suspense and everything in between. This was a short read but had three different stories in it from three different authors. Each story was unique and kept me interested from page one until the end. Not bad for my first western! I actually was interested in it enough to finish it!

If you like the western genre with lots of spice, the this one will keep you hotter than a western sunrise! Even if you don't like the western genre that much, you might be surprised to like this one!

  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0671027344
  • ISBN-13: 978-0671027346
SYNOPSIS:

Standing on the fringes of life...

offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.

This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion marks the stunning debut of a provocative new voice in contemporary fiction: The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

This is the story of what it's like to grow up in high school. More intimate than a diary, Charlie's letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating. We may not know where he lives. We may not know to whom he is writing. All we know is the world he shares. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it puts him on a strange course through uncharted territory. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite.

Through Charlie, Stephen Chbosky has created a deeply affecting coming-of-age story, a powerful novel that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller coaster days known as growing up.

MY THOUGHTS:

Once in awhile you come across one of those books that leave a lasting impression when you are done reading them. This is one of those books.

I first noticed this book awhile back during banned books week. From what I understand, this book is banned from school libraries in some states. Why I can see how some parents would find this book inappropriate, I don't feel this should be a book that is banned. I mean, come on, teens nowadays hear and see worse things than what is in this book on a daily basis at school. Personally, I would let my teens read this with no worries. I can see the point and the lesson's that the author was trying to get across. We see Charlie deal with drug abuse, sex, molestation, depression, alcohol abuse and many more things. But not all to him, but to others as well. This book leaves a lasting impression on you. When you finish it, you just close the book and say WOW! That was my reaction to the book. I can now see why so many people have enjoyed this book.

I feel that no books should be banned. All books that are printed are meant to be read by someone. If we have freedom of speech we should have freedom to read. If anything, maybe have a parent read it first and let them use their own judgment in letting their teen read it.

IT'S ALL IN THE JEANS by Tory Richards (Review and Q&A)

IT'S ALL IN THE JEANS
Author: Tory Richards
Source: Author
*I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review*
  • Paperback: 210 pages
  • Publisher: Whiskey Creek Press (2008)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1603131639
  • ISBN-13: 978-1603131636
SYNOPSIS:

Logan Knight is staying with his grandfather while recuperating from an accident that killed his two best friends. He needs time to heal his body and his heart from the tragedy. Libby Turner is on a hell bent mission to keep her grandmother out of an assisted living facility, even if it means masquerading as a seventy-year-old woman.

From the moment the two meet sparks fly, and they can't keep their hands off each other. The only problem is, neither is looking for a relationship, so they come up with an outrageous solution. Can they stick to their plan of keeping their relationship strictly sexual, or do they give in to the overwhelming love that threatens to claim their hearts?

MY THOUGHTS:

What do you look for in a contemporary romance? A strong hero? A witty heroine? A little humor? Some suspense?

This book has all of that and then some! Including the sexy scenes! Logan is a strong and sexy hero that quickly falls in love with our heroine Libby. Libby is also a strong person but what captured me the most about her was her witty humor and love for her Grams. She would do anything to keep her Grams from having to move into a nursing home. So hse pretends to be a long time friend of Grams and dresses up as an old lady. She plays Reba around the retirement community and has the wittiest humor! On the weekends, she is Libby and quickly notices the grandson of the next door neighbor. He rescues her several times and is instantly captivated by him. The two fall in love and lust but both are trying to get over nasty breakups from before. That is where the suspense comes in. Both of their exes come back in the picture trying to cause havoc.

I loved the HEA ending in this book and I was sad to see the book end. It even has some unexpected endings for some of the other characters in the book with scenes that will leave you laughing and blushing at the same time! A great romantic read full of love, suspense, humor and the smoking hot sex! A book that will keep you interested until the end!

Welcome Tory! To start off can you tell the readers a little about yourself?

Sure. I live in in a nice quiet retirement community in Florida with my soul mate and three crazy cats. I work days and at night I pen tales of suspense, humor and sizzling sex. Some day I'd like to try my hand at writing a vampire or werewolf romance but right now I mostly stick with contemporary. Seems like I've been writing all of my life but have only been published for a few years. My family encouraged me to submit to a publisher when they discovered my secret and read some of my stuff. Two months later I had my first contract and that book, "CUPID'S ARROW, was on the publisher's best sellers website for two consecutive months!

Can you tell us a little about your new or current releases?

THE COWBOY WAY was released in early 2009. It's the stormy romance between a rancher's daughter and his partner. Complicating things is arson, murder and a scorned ex-lover. Oh yeah, and an escaped convict out for revenge. His target... the rancher's daughter.

When your not writing, what kind of books do you like to read? Do you have any favorite authors that are must reads?

My all time favorite author is Katheleen E.Woodiwiss, and I just recently re-read THE WOLF AND THE DOVE. I was heart broken when she passed away. I don't have time to do a lot of reading but lately I've read a couple werewolf romances. I try to fit in short stories now and again.

What are 3 things that are "must haves" for you when you sit down to write a new book?

For me it's all about the atmosphere.Something good to drink, usually an iced coffee from McDonalds or a cup of Barnies Santa's White Christmas coffee. My jammies on. And time.

What are your favorite things to do in your downtime?

Spend time with my daughter, niece and granddaughter. Curl up on the sofa with my cats and watch a good movie or if it's raining, just listen to it. Put on soft music, light a candle and just sit and have a nice conversation with my hubby.

Where can we purchase your books?

Whiskey Creek Press Torrid and soon at The Wild Rose Press. I have a book coming out in 2010 with them. You can also find my books at Fictionwise, Amazon, All Romance eBooks, and Barnes and Nobles.

Do you have a blog or website that your readers can keep up with you and your books?

I sure do! My website is: www.toryrichards.com and my blog is: Romance with an Attitude

Thank you so much for joining us! Please come by again!

This week we get to know Kristina!

Name: Kristina

1. Tell us a little about your blog.

- Well my blog is basically about all the books I read. Since I'm a new blogger these are
the books off my shelves...the books from the library...etc. I can't say that I plan on
sticking to one genre because there are so many books I enjoy. If you look at my blog
you will notice that it consists mostly of paranormal stuff right now.

2. Why did you start your blog and what is your favorite thing about having a blog?

-Initially a few months ago I started my blog to share my scrapbooking and photography
(my other two hobbies). I kind of waffled on that one then decided to start blogging
about the books I read. I did this because nobody at home seemed really interested in
hearing what I had to say about my books...they love me but are not dedicated readers
myself.
-At this point my favorite thing about blogging is the new people I've gotten to talk to and
all the great new books I've found out about! (Although that part is not great for the
wallet LOL!)

3. If you could be any character from any book, who would you be and why?

-Ok this is a hard one for me! But I think I would love to be Beth, shellan of Wrath, from
JR Wards Dark Lover. I love the Brothers and Wrath is my favorite...I would so be his girl!

4. Who is your favorite author(s)?

- I have several authors I enjoy reading and I always buy their books. Obviously J.R.Ward
*smirk* love her stuff. Charlaine Harris (I'm a big Sookie Fan and the fact that they are
southern based is the cherry on top). I enjoy Michele Hauf's writing, Stephanie Meyer
*please don't pummel me*, Nicholas Sparks (He makes me cry alot), and I'm sure there
are others I'm forgetting but I'm pretty sure I was only suppose to pick one author right?
LOL

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

-Well I love paranormal romance (I'm a sucker for a good shifter or werewolf...or heck
even a faerie!) I love YA Paranormal (they're not so serious all the time).

6. What book are you reading right now?

-Right at this moment I am reading "Witch Child" by Celia Rees which I'll be following up
with "Sorceress" the sequel to my current read.

7. Name some of your favorite blogs.

-Well this is hard! I like so many! Including this one!
http://allthingsurbanfantasy.blogspot.com/
http://peekingbetweenthepages.blogspot.com/
http://vampchix.blogspot.com/
http://parajunkee.blogspot.com/
http://darkfaerietales.com/
http://agoodaddiction.blogspot.com/
Well that is tough! I follow so many blogs and I enjoy them all for so many different
reasons that it's really hard!

8. Any tips for new bloggers?

LOL....actually if anyone has any tips for me that would be great! Seriously though the
best advice I can give is get out there and visit other blogs and make friends!
